Jacob Mercer Adds a 3rd Place Finish to his Impressive 2022 Stats

As the 2022 regular season at Peterborough starts to wind-down, Jacob Mercer has his sights set on finishing the job that began with his first green flag of the year. The 15-year-old former go-karter from Port Hope, Ontario has complied some impressive stats – including a 3rd place finish in the Saturday, August 13th main event – during his rookie season in the track’s Late Model division and finds himself within striking distance of the top of the standings.

The soft-spoken, hard charging youngster who learns more about his chosen racing vocation with each turn of the steering wheel says that while he knows where his is No. 81 team sits in the overall running order, it isn’t something he’s been paying too much attention to. Even with another year of classes at Port Hope High School just around the corner, Jacob Mercer believes there is still a lot to learn before the racing season comes to a close.

“The focus right now is on the next race,” Jacob Mercer said. “The team and I are taking things one event at a time. We’re making changes to the car every time I head onto the track and that’s helping the crew gain information and build a solid book of set-up notes for the many different conditions we’re likely to experience during the year.”

Jacob Mercer says competition with the Late Model’s occasional stretches of 4 or 5 racing weekends in a row is quite different from what he experienced in karting. Both programs demand a strong level of commitment from the driver and team to make sure everything is ready to roll once they hit the track.

Saturday, August 13th results:

Qualifying heat race #1, 4th

Qualifying heat race #2, 3rd

Feature event started 2nd. Finished 3rd.
