Chase for the Colours Pole Qualifier Rocks Peterborough Speedway Saturday Night

IMG_2984Not even a delay of nearly 2 months can keep fans at Canada’s Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval from being part of one of the year’s most anticipated events. Peterborough Speedway’s Hot August Night Racing Series continues Saturday, August 22nd with the Chase for the Colours Pole Qualifier.

The best Mini Stock, Thunder Car and Late Model throttle jockeys in the province will tackle the tight, tricky bullring on Mount Pleasant Road, west of the Liftlock City with front row starting spots at the 23rd Annual Autumn Colours Classic awarded to the top finishers in each feature event. Mini Stocks will run a 30 lap ‘A’ main, Paul Davis Systems Thunder Cars, 40 and the Earl Ireland Auto Sales Late Model drivers will do 75. Track owner/promoter J.P. Josiasse says this show will give fans a chance to see some of the heavy hitters who’ll be looking to claim a checkered flag in October’s Super Bowl of Stock Car racing.

“There’ll be some big names rolling through the pit gates and the fans will see an incredibly competitive show,” said Josiasse. “This event is usually run on a Sunday afternoon, so it’ll be great to see what happens when the green flag flies with so much on the line under the lights on a typical Saturday night.”

In 2014, Nick Goetz, Ken Grubb and hometown favourite Tyler Junkin claimed the Late Model, Thunder Car and Mini Stock main events. Just a year earlier, home trackers Ryan Kimball, John Baker Jr. and Christopher Mulders were the best of the same divisions.

Using regular Saturday night numbers as a template, this show has the potential to draw some incredible car counts. So far this season, nearly 35 drivers have scored points in at least one Mini Stock main event, while the Paul Davis Systems Thunder Car field has seen over 20 teams sign-in. The Earl Ireland Auto Sales Late Model division has parked close to 25 different machines in the pits throughout the schedule. Pit area parking spots could be as valuable as track positions.

For the Saturday, August 22nd show – that will also include Peterborough Speedway’s Renegade Truck and the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series classes – pit gates will open at 1:00 with spectator grandstands unlocked at 4:00 and racing at 5:00.
