Rainout Moves Ontario Legends Series Opener to Saturday, May 18th
It was a perfect plan, but someone else came along to spoil the fun. With a solid field of 26 teams signed-in at Sunset Speedway, the Trailers Plus Ontario Legends Series was ready to kick-off a new season of action but as she has done so many times during the early spring, Mother Nature stepped-in and took control of the situation. After forcing everyone into a holding pattern – hoping for a break in the weather – track officials were forced to make the announcement no one wanted to hear. The night’s action would be cancelled.
“It was tough to roll in there with so much anticipation and ready to race; only to have the show called-off,” said Ontario Legends official Jeff Drimmie. “So many different series and weekly events across the province have been washed-out, so I guess we were due to be next. It’s a long year and I’m sure waiting a little while longer to get the new season underway won’t be too much to ask of our teams.”
Drimmie says that in addition to the drivers who’ve returned from last year, the field at Sunset also had some newcomers, including Chris Massey – brother of Andrew Massey and NASCAR Pinty’s Series regular Connor James. Although the tour is scheduled to return to Sunset Speedway for additional events this season – including Sunday, May 19th and the Canadian Legend Asphalt Nationals later this summer – there are no plans to reschedule the cancelled event.
The Trailers Plus Ontario Legends Series kick-off will now be part of the Country 105 Season Opener – Saturday, May 18th – at Peterborough Speedway. Fans will see a full night of amazing short track action, with a fan appreciation autograph session at intermission…and grandstand admission is absolutely free. Gates open at 3:00, with the night’s first qualifying heat at 5:00.
