Peterborough Speedway Feeds the Need for Motorsports Excitement

IMG_2419The motorsports experience Central Ontario craves roars back to life Saturday, June 20th with a thrilling night of action featuring the Battlefield Equipment Rental 4Fun, Paul Davis Systems Thunder Car, Earl Ireland Auto Sales Late Model and INEX Ontario Legend divisions. As a special attraction, there will also be kid’s barrel races at intermission.

While it’s technically still early in the calendar, a trend that began last year has continued in 2015. In the most recent night of action, each of the feature race winners logged their first checkered flag of the season. In all of the track’s 5 regular divisions, the only driver with more than one main event win in the same division is last year’s Thunder Car track champion Anthony DiBello, who visited Dart Heating and Air Conditioning victory lane Saturday, May 16th and Saturday, June 6th. Ryan Oosterholt has a pair of ‘A’ main wins, coming in the 4Fun and Mini Stock divisions. Track owner and promoter J.P. Josiasse says the fans have been impressed with seeing different drivers in the winner’s circle.

“Everyone loves to share in the excitement of a race win by their favourite driver and our regular fan base has had plenty to cheer about over the last couple of seasons,” said Josiasse. “We’re definitely spreading things around where the checkered flags are concerned and that gets people talking and competitive racing week-to-week puts people in the seats.”

Even in the special guest divisions – where the INEX Ontario Legends Series has logged a pair of starts – there has yet to be a repeat winner. Their cars may be maintained in the same shops, but Brian Saunders and Kevin Foisy have claimed checkered flags on May 16th and June 6th respectively.

On Saturday, June 20th – which will be the final Saturday night show for the month – pit gates will open at 3:00, with the spectator grandstands unlocked at 5:00. Racing will get underway at 6:00.

Bullring bullet points: Peterborough Speedway will take Saturday, June 27th off, but will host the annual Chase for the Colours Pole Qualifying Event Sunday, June 28th. The Battlefield Equipment Rental 4Fun, Mini Stock, Paul Davis Systems Thunder Car and Earl Ireland Auto Sales Late Model teams will compete in extra distance feature events that will determine the front row starting spots for the 23rd Annual Autumn Colours Classic. Pit gates will open at 11:00, with spectator grandstand access at 1:00 and the afternoon’s first green flag at 2:30.
