Peterborough Speedway Confirms ‘Plan B’ for the 2023 Season Opener

Track officials spent nearly 6 months working on the line-up for the 2023 season, but unfortunately Mother Nature wouldn’t co-operate.

As much as fans, racers and even Peterborough Speedway staff were looking forward to opening a new year of action – Saturday, May 20th – an early morning storm front and additional rain and showers expected throughout the day made it impossible to do so. In the interest of safety and time to notify as many people as possible – as early as possible – a decision has been made to postpone this year’s planned season opener to Saturday, May 27th.

Track owner and promoter J.P. Josiasse has confirmed that the Pure Country 105 Season Opener will now be held Saturday, May 27th. As originally scheduled, spectator grandstand admission will be free, with a Fan Appreciation autograph session at intermission. On track action divisions will now include the Trent Lakes Complete Plumbing Renegade Trucks, Jiffy Lube Super Stocks, GEN-3 Electrical Ontario Modifieds Racing Series and Kingsway Auto Centre Junior Late Models. The night’s racing will be highlighted by a 50-lap main event for the SwitchTire Mini Stocks.

As with the original date, pit gates will open at 12:30, with the spectator grandstands unlocked at 3:00 and the year’s first green flag at 5:00. Josiasse says the change of plans is unfortunate, but moving the season kick-off to the new date is the best way to salvage what has become one of the most anticipated events of the year.

“From where I sit, everything we do here is for the fans,” said J.P. Josiasse. “Starting the year with a show where our spectator grandstand admission is free has become a Peterborough Speedway tradition and thanks to some ongoing support from Pure Country 105, we can keep that rolling. There isn’t anything we can do about the weather, but it is certainly within our power to give the fans what they want.”
