Ontario Modifieds Racing Series Begins a Busy Month at Canada’s Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval

IMG_2584Fans of open wheeled racing are in store for a treat as the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series – powered by Torque Builders Inc. – has 3 shows in 4 weeks at Peterborough Speedway. Close to 20 machines signed-in pit-side Saturday, July 4th for the first show of the month.

 

Nick Lees and John Baker Jr. brought the field of Ontario Modifieds Racing Series teams to the line for their 25 lap feature event, with Lees building a strong lead by the time there were 3 circuits complete.

 

With the #09 in front, a 5 car dog fight was for the runner-up spot was being waged for about the first half of the event. Dan Price slowed on the backstretch to bring out a yellow flag with 9 laps complete. The field tightened-up for the restart and hat was the break a familiar face was looking for and 4 circuits later, JBJ would grab the lead he’d never relinquish as the crowd favourite claimed his first career OMRS checkered flag. Nick Lees held on for second, with Ryan Dick, Brad Stevenson and Donny Beatty completing the top 5. Cory Horner, Josh Gruntz, Alex Lees, Robert Warnes, Jamie Wagar, Randy Hollingsworth, Duane Cinnamon, Willow Barberstock, Richard Warnes, Price, Ryan Babin and Chris Burrows finished out the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series running order.

 

Qualifying heat race wins went to Nick Lees with a pair, John Baker Jr. and Alex Lees.

 

OMRS Peterborough Speedway notebook: It was a highlight moment for Willow Barberstock, as the 15 year old finished a position ahead of her grandfather Randy Hollingsworth in the night’s 4th qualifying heat. After accepting some good natured ribbing, Hollingsworth said he’d likely hear about the accomplishment for the rest of the week…Defending Peterborough Speedway Mini Stock track champion Ryan Babin made his first start in the #46 car he’ll be sharing with Christopher Mulders.
