POINTS BATTLES ARE WRAPPING UP
by Bob Lawless – Bandit Photo
The sun was shinning, the breeze was warm and everybody was relaxed . . . . until the sun went down over the turn 4 wall. You know the racing season in Canada is nearing the end on the first night at the track when the sun goes down and the blankets, parkas and gloves come out. Tonight was that night. Could it really be that expensive to put a dome over the track?

Full Moon Weirdness
by Bob Lawless – Bandit Photo
Some people say its only superstition that people act differently when there is a full moon and I tend to think most drivers change the moment they put a helmet on. It may just be the competitiveness of being a racecar driver. Whatever the reason, Saturday night racing at Peterborough had lots of action.
Although we had OSCAAR visiting again, I’ll stick with our own series and let them handle their own PR.

But during the first heat race of the evening, disaster strikes again – not once, but twice in the same race! Tiemersma was able to limp to

Saturday night offered a change from the normal routine by running the Enduro under the lights. As the huge field of 32 cars moved off it wouldn’t be presumptuous to guess that number would be dramatically reduce 250 laps later.

A Turn of Events
Saturday night turned out to be one of those nights that nobody could have predicted. All the talk was about the 100-lap Late Model Feature race. The past few weeks have been a crash fest in this series and lots of cars have been sidelined while repairs are happening. Like any other track a 100 lap race draws in some new faces who have their eyes on the big pay cheque for winning, so most of us were wondering how many would survive the race based on the previous weeks.

Dodging the weather bullet yet again
Another weekend approached and another forecast of rain. It has happened a few times this year and again many tracks in eastern Ontario cancelled their race programs with the impending bad weather approaching. Peterborough Speedway again thought lets wait and see, and it’s a darn good thing. Even with a few black clouds north and allot of them to the south the cars lined up for racing. A little more than 3 hours later the only thing that had fallen was allot of checkered flags,

Concrete and Steel
Another wild night of stock car racing took place on Saturday night as the mechanized warriors took to the fast 1/3-mile track in Canada. I’m sure allot of people would think a small paved track wouldn’t offer much excitement because of the short distance around but it’s actually the opposite. Drivers have very few chances to get around the car leading so when they get the chance it’s foot to the floor and try to save it before the corner.

DOUBLE FEATURES FOR TQ'S

Saturday night proved to be another winning night both for the racers and fans alike. With beautiful weather and light breeze it made for a perfect night of racing. Along with the regular racers, we were again treated to a visit by the TQ Midget’s, with not one but two feature events. After the huge crash in the feature a few weeks previous prevented the feature from being run, we were able to open the evening with a full feature race.

Rain Rain Go Away

Although it seemed water would be the only thing running at Peterborough Speedway on this Saturday night one stronger input actually won out. It’s not raining now, let’s run is what came out of the drivers meeting, and run they did.

SEASON KICKS OFF UNDER SUNNY SKIES
It may go down as one of the best Opening Nights in Peterborough Speedway history, it not it certainly was among the best in recent memory. First off, the weather was fantastic as sunny skies greeted drivers and their crews when they arrived for practice earlier in the day. When fans started arriving for their first taste of racing this season a beautiful April night greeted them. Nothing like the wet cold Opening Nights of the past, many of which were out right wiped out by Mother Nature.
