Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup Series Signs-in Saturday Night at Peterborough Speedway

Mike Nelson photo (2)The Hot August Saturday Night Series of racing continues Saturday, August 9th on Canada’s Toughest 3rd of a Mile Oval as the Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup Series – presented by Attersley Tire – joins a show that also features the Battlefield Equipment Rental 4Fun, Peterborough Hyundai Mini Stock, Paul Davis Systems Thunder Car divisions, along with the always popular Hurricane Midgets and King of the Hill.

Peterborough Speedway’s highly competitive 2014 season continued Saturday, August 2nd with 4 of the night’s five feature event winners claiming their first checkered flags of the year. Jeffrey and Tiffany Vanderbelt grabbed the regularly scheduled victories in the Renegade Truck and 4Fun divisions, while Matthew Vanderbelt took the 4Fun ‘A’ main that had been held-over from the Saturday, July 19th rainout. Only Danny Benedict’s Mini Stock triumph broke from the first-timer family reunion in Dart Heating and Air Conditioning victory lane.

Coming into the Saturday, August 9th fray, the Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup Series has seen 4 different winners in as many starts, but the crowd will be looking for local favourite Mike Nelson of Peterborough to defend the tight, tricky bullring on Mount Pleasant Road, west of the Liftlock City from invader invasion. The former Peterborough Hyundai Mini Stock standout would love to be the 5th smiling face to pose for victory lane photos, especially with so many family members and fans there to cheer on his every move.

Fans and competitors are reminded to double-check the scheduled start times for the Saturday, August 9th Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup Series event.

Pit gates will open at 2:00, with the spectator grandstands unlocked at 5:00 and racing getting underway at 6:00. Looking ahead on the schedule to Saturday, August 16th finds the year’s 3rd and final Toonie Spectator Grandstand Admission/Fan Appreciation night, presented by Pepsi. Racing will include the Peterborough Hyundai Mini Stock, Paul Davis Systems Thunder Car, Earl Ireland Auto Sales Late Model, Inex Ontario Legend and Ontario Modifieds Racing Series divisions. In addition, the Ontario Legends will run double feature events to make up for the ‘A’ main lost to rain Saturday, July 19th.
