Learning the Ropes at the Annual Ontario Modifieds Racing Series Test Session

IMG_4010 (2)Since its inception, the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series – powered by Torque Builders Inc. – has been dedicated to providing teams with an affordable, competitive motorsports experience for racers, by racers. Randy Hollingsworth – who along with Bill Pickford and Richard Warnes – make up the team of OMRS officials says that’s the philosophy that has made the group a success since its early days at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park half mile oval.

“We’ve tried our best to keep an eye on costs incurred by the teams, with a goal of putting as many cars on the track as possible,” said Hollingsworth, who like Warnes is also a competitor. “There have been several new runners join us each of the past years and that speaks volumes for what we’ve been working toward.”

Even though it wasn’t a race date, a number of Ontario Modifieds Racing Series teams had their equipment at Peterborough Speedway Saturday, June 18th for the annual Test a Modified Day. Drivers from Peterborough’s 4Fun and Thunder Car divisions, as well as the Ontario Legends and Go Karting ranks took advantage of the chance to run some laps in the popular open wheeled machines, as part of the development program with the venue known as Canada’s Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval.

“It wasn’t about the speed, but instead gaining some knowledge and confidence in a different type of racecar than they might be used to,” said Hollingsworth. “The session helped open the door to aspects of car control and conditions these racers wouldn’t usually experience.”

The next on-track action for the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series takes place Saturday, July 2nd with the first of this season’s pair of dates at Flamboro Speedway. Peterborough Speedway’s portion of the schedule continues Saturday, July 23rd.
