Just Keep on Doing What You’re Doing

June 12 story picNo matter where they take place, every race can have only 1 winner. As Peterborough Speedway gets set to kick-off the 5th week of its 2014 schedule – Saturday, June 14th – the trips to Dart Heating and Air Conditioning victory lane have been shared nicely through the track’s regular divisions. With the exception of the Parry Spring Service Renegade Trucks – where Jack Dallin is a perfect 3-for-3 – multiple main event winners have been as rare as rain on Saturday nights.

Some might look at recent feature wins by Willow Barberstock and Anthony DiBello in the Battlefield Equipment Rental 4Fun and Paul Davis Systems Thunder Car divisions as upsets, while the victory by Dan Price was long overdue and thrilled the capacity crowd on Fan Appreciation Night. Another interesting point to consider is that not a single member of the 2013 championship class has scored a feature win yet this season. Track owner/promoter J.P. Josiasse says those numbers speak to the quality fields Peterborough Speedway has had to offer.

“We’ve put an excellent product on the track from the drop of the first green flag and have been rewarded with strong support from the fans and race teams alike,” said Josiasse. “The numbers have shown that anyone in any division can make it to victory lane on any given night. It’s always great to see some first time winners. It helps build the momentum through the field and people in the grandstand can’t wait to see if their favourite driver will be next in line.”

Josiasse says that while the wins are something that every driver enjoys, a strong season made-up of top 5 and top 10 finishes can often provide the shot a team needs to get close to claiming a track championship. Consistency is often the key when it comes to success on the weekly short track level.

Peterborough Speedway’s exciting 2014 season continues Saturday, June 14th with the Battlefield Equipment Rental 4Fun, Peterborough Hyundai Mini Stock, Parry Spring Service Renegade Truck and Paul Davis Systems Thunder Car divisions will be on hand to tackle Canada’s Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval, with the Earl Ireland Auto Sales Late Models taking a week off. The TQ Midgets will join the show for their only appearance on this year’s agenda and there will be kid’s bicycle races at intermission.
