Cory Horne Answers the Call for Peterborough Speedway’s 2023 Season

Whether at the weekly short track or on the national stage, racers at every level of the sport get excited as they start making plans for the first green flag of the upcoming season.

Cory Horne comes from a personal motorsports history that started in 2006 when he was competing in demolition derbies. From there, he moved to karting, where he finished 2nd in the senior Honda class with the Kawartha Kart Club and was named most improved senior racer in 2016. Horne is now counting the days to the start of his 3rd season of action in the Bone Stock field at Peterborough Speedway. The 33-year-old from Port Hope, Ontario – who works as a Licenced Automotive Service Technician – is looking to build on 2022 schedule that saw him finish 9th in the final standings at the venue known as Canada’s Toughest 3rd Mile Oval.

“There is a lot of time, effort and hard work that goes into the process of making sure the car is ready for opening night,” Cory Horne explained. “I’m lucky to have my Dad, Ed Horne and crew members Zack Kiltz, Owen Redick and Philip Marshall to help-out behind the scenes during the off season and at the track. They’re great at keeping the team together and running smoothly.”

For the 2023 line-up, the Cory Horne Racing No. 09 Bone Stock – which is a variation of the number he used during his demolition derby and karting days – will be backed by Canadian Tire – Cobourg, Seamless Exteriors and Boundy Roofing. The driver is also appreciative of the support he receives from his Mother, Angie Currin and his sister, Tabitha Horne and many others who lend a hand along the way.

“Right now, my focus is on being more competitive in the Bone Stock ranks, before maybe making the move to Mini Stocks or the Renegade Trucks,” said the Port Hope High School and Loyalist College graduate. “I’ve always enjoyed travelling and seeing new things. Maye picking-up a ride with the Hot Rod Series would allow me the opportunity to combine both passions.”

Even with snow on the ground and the possibility of more still to come, Cory Horne and the No. 09 Bone Stock crew will tell you that its never too early to start making plans for the 2023 season opener – Saturday, May 20th – at Peterborough Speedway.
