Chase for the Colours Pole Qualifying Event Hits the Track Sunday at Peterborough Speedway

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERASaturday, June 28th the thrills and excitement of stock car racing will be missing from Canada’s Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval – but the very next day – Sunday, June 29th – Peterborough Speedway will host the annual ‘Chase for the Colours’ pole qualifying event, with action taking the green flag at 2:30.

This is the first step in the process toward earning a preferred starting spot in what has become known as the Super Bowl of stock car racing. With action in the Battlefield Equipment Rental 4Fun, Peterborough Hyundai Mini Stocks, Paul Davis Systems Thunders Car and a 75 lap feature tilt for the Earl Ireland Auto Sales Late Model division, success in the Chase for the Colours show will set the front for each class during the Autumn Colours Classic – October 10th, 11th and 12th – at Peterborough Speedway.

The prestigious event brings a number of ‘invaders’ to town who’ll be looking to tame the tight, tricky bullring on Mount Pleasant Road, west of the Liftlock City, but it’s the hometown heroes who’ll be the most determined to score the win. After taking a few weeks off to regroup, Craig Graham – the 2013 Late Model track champion – says he’ll be ready for action Sunday afternoon. The Orono, Ontario racer prefers the extra distance events and the chance to build some adjustments into his car throughout the day.

“The car will go through some changes as the fuel burns off and the tires heat up,” said the driver of the #98 Full Circle Automation/Hot Rod Swag/Auto Care/Clarke Motorsports Communications Chevrolet. “We’ll get a feel for what needs to be done to the car from what we learn during practice and the qualifying heats. From there, the crew and I will pull out the notebook and go through the calculations we’ve made during days with similar weather and track conditions to help determine and set-up that will work the best. In some ways, it’ll be a gamble but the chance we’ll land on something that works makes it all worthwhile.”

Saturday night competition on Canada’s Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval has been incredible in 2014. The Mini Stock and Late Model divisions have yet to see a repeat main event winner, while Willow Barberstock and Anthony DiBello each have a pair of feature wins in the 4Fun and Thunder Car classes.

The Chase for the Colours pole qualifying show – presented by Lucas Oil Products – is one of the most popular single day events on Peterborough Speedway’s annual schedule. Pit gates for the Sunday, June 29th program open at 11:00, with the spectator areas unlocked at 1:00 and the day’s first green flag at 2:30.
