When it comes to weekly short track racing, some drivers in the field are better than others when there’s a big paycheque on the line.

Port Hope, Ontario’s Bryan Mercer is one of the region’s best big money racers. His resume already includes a $3,000 payday from an NAPA Auto Parts ACT Late Model Summer Sizzler victory at Kawartha Speedway and some solid efforts during a pair of starts in American-Canadian Tour Invitational at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. While he has yet to claim an Autumn Colours Classic checkered flag, the 42 year-old second generation speedster says he’s hoping to convert his experience from the last 3 seasons into a trip to victory lane.

“I’ve always liked running the longer races,” said Mercer. “The crew can set-up the car with enough adjustments that will help compensate for the changing track and race conditions. If you manage to keep your nose clean long enough, you can still be in a position to have a strong finish during the late stages of the event.”

While his 2015 schedule at the venue known as Canada’s Toughest 3^rd of a Mile Paved Oval limited to just a pair of starts so far, Bryan Mercer has managed to steer his way to some impressive finishes in the #81 Chevrolet SS. His first night of action produced a 7^th place ‘A’ main showing, while a week later it was a runner-up effort in Late Model division’s headline shootout.

Since 2011, Mercer’s worst finish in the Pro Late Model feature at the annual Super Bowl of Stock Car Racing has been 13^th. Last year and in 2012, he was 4^th. In 2013, a podium finish and a 3^rd place effort was the reward for the driver who works as a Service Advisor at Quantrill Chevrolet Buick GMC Cadillac. While he hasn’t set any immediate goal for this year’s 115 lap marathon, a solid showing could be the momentum the team needs to move into the next season.

“We were late getting the season started, but the car has been performing exactly the way we had hoped it would,” admitted Mercer. “I’m really looking forward to seeing our hard work pay off in the Sunday afternoon finale at Autumn Colours. No matter where we finish, it’ll be a team effort. I have a great bunch of people helping out behind the scenes and a strong performance will be very rewarding for everyone.”
