Bryan Mercer Confirms Plans for his 2021 Autumn Colours Classic Run

The season may be winding down but action is starting to heat up. Peterborough Speedway’s Autumn Colours Classic is less than a week away and even though he’ll be travelling between 2 different venues, Bryan Mercer is looking forward to a weekend of running the roads and tackling the track.

With his son Jake scheduled to make his last karting start of the season with the Toronto Kart Club, the driver of the No. 81 Chevy will run the Friday practice sessions at Peterborough before heading to Brechin Motorsports Park near Orillia Saturday, returning in time for Late Model qualifying. Mercer says it will almost be a race within the race…to make the race.

“Jake’s group will be the first race of the day, so I think we’ll be able to make it,” explained Bryan Mercer. “He’s had a great season and it has been really exciting to watch his race-by-race development. Now I can understand the joy my father experienced from being with me at the track. It’s a lot of fun to be a cheerleader, mentor and coach; but most of all, a Dad.”

Mercer and his team have been spending some long hours in the shop to get things ready for their run at the 2021 Autumn Colours Classic. They’ve had some strong runs at the season-ending short track spectacular in the past but as every racer knows, there’s nothing like picking-up the checkered flag in one of the sport’s marquee events.

“I hope we’ll be able to continue the strength and momentum that saw us finish 2nd in this year’s Late Model point standings,” explained Bryan Mercer. “The Autumn Colours’ feature for our class is 167 laps and there’s really no telling what can happen in a race of that distance. We just have to make sure the car is prepared and hope for the best.”
