Bailey Jacobs Dominates Peterborough Speedway’s 50th Anniversary Thunder Car Feature

A week after celebrating his 20th birthday, Bailey Jacobs demonstrated the skills of a racer more than twice his age, as the young speedster from Warsaw, Ontario led all 50 laps of the Thunder Car main event – Saturday, July 22nd – at Peterborough Speedway.

Starting on the outside of the front row, next to his friend Tyler Bouillon – who was wheeling the machine Jacobs drove to a pair of feature race wins last season – the 2015 Rookie of the Year took an early lead, then worked through traffic to perfection to take the win. Not even a late race caution flag with 3 laps remaining could keep the hard-charger from what may very well be the biggest win of his career. In victory lane, the humble, soft-spoken former go karter praised the hard work of his father, Tyler Handley, Luke Handley and Jay Peacock, the #60 car’s crew.

“At times, it may have seemed like an uphill climb to find the race-winning set-up, but this team never stopped working,” Bailey Jacobs said. “We’re in the shop making changes to make the car better and even after a good night, we still want to find ways to get more speed and improve the handling in an effort to get to victory lane.”

Jacobs had as close to a perfect car as the team has ever brought to the track known as Canada’s Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval. From the drop of the green flag, he took control of the field; rolling out to a lead of almost half a straightaway over the second-place car. The car would go anywhere it was pointed and its driver started lapping backmarkers with about laps showing on the scoreboard. A daring 3-wide pass – splitting a pair of slower cars in the first turn – got the crowd’s attention, but didn’t delay the leader’s charge. Just a day short of the anniversary of his first stock car win, Bailey Jacobs held a hot hand to take his first checkered flag of 2017.

“I’ve got to say thanks to the people who support this team at the track and behind the scenes every week. They certainly make what we do worthwhile.”
