CHAMPIONSHIPS ON THE LINE

As the racing season slowly comes to an end, Peterborough Speedway racers and fans have enjoyed some of the most exciting racing of the season of late along with some of the closest points races in Peterborough Speedway’s 41 year history! With only a two nights of racing before the Autumn Colours Classic, here’s what you need to know…
A third place finish in the feature race on September 20th was all it took for Terry Hubbert to increase his lead in the For Fun Division. Hubbert holds a 44 point lead over Wayne Dewdney for top spot in the points standings. Dewdney, with 1,096 points, could still potentially overtake Hubbert, but also has to worry about being passed as he is only a single point ahead of Andy McCann for second spot after McCann’s feature win. Trevor Logan sits fourth, but is only 4 points behind Dewdney with 1,092 points; while Brandon Hannah rounds out the top five with 1081. Ultimately, only 59 points separate first from fifth with two weeks of racing left before the Colours!
The two-horse race continues in the Discount Car Rental Late Model Division as Larry Crowe Jr. and Amanda Connelly continue to exchange position atop the points standings. Crowe came flying out of the gates on September 20th, winning both of his heat races. Howie Crowe and Randy Bull won the other heats. Bull, who has been racing some of the best races of his career of late, was the highlight of the Late Model feature for all the wrong reasons on Saturday. Leading for most of the race, Bull was heading around turn four of the final lap and heading toward yet another checkered flag when he spun out trying to maneouver around a lapped car. There was no contact between the cars, but because of Bull’s spinout, he was moved to the back of the pack on the restart and with only one lap left, he finished there. Despite not being able to capture a checkered flag in the heat races, Connelly held on for the huge win in the feature. Crowe Jr. was forced to settle for fifth. As a result, Crowe’s lead in the points standings is down to a mere three points as he sits at 1,051 points, with Connelly at 1,048!
In the Peterborough Hyundai Mini Stock Division, it was Bancroft native Justin Bierworth who started the night on fire, winning both of his heat races. In the other set of drivers, Paul Hannah and David Tuck took checkered flags in the heats. By the night’s end, it was Paul Hannah with the hot machine as he took the win in the feature races ahead of Darragh Moroney and Bobby Love who finished second and third respectively. With the win, Hannah moves up to 11th spot in the points standings and only a single point out of a top ten finish on the year. Mike Wallace continues to lead to Mini Stock standings with 1,031 points. Behind Wallace is Bierworth with 991 and Tyler Junkin with 983. Like every other division at Peterborough Speedway, it’s still anyone’s division to take!
