OSCAAR ROCKS PETERBOROUGH
Peterborough Speedway welcomed the OSCAAR Super Late Models to the track on August 30th for a night full of tight racing and intense battles for points in all divisions. As the racing season winds down, Peterborough Speedway finds itself in one of the closest points races in its 41 year history for virtually all divisions. For example, in the Peterborough Hyundai Mini Stock Division, Mike Wallace is hanging onto top spot in the points race, however, Tyler Junkin, Justin Bierworth, and Mike Nelson are all within range and all three drivers are starting to race some of the best races of the season! In the For Fun Division, only 102 points separate leader Terry Hubbert from sixth place Stacey Bierworth. After winning a heat on August 30th, Bierworth extended her winning streak to two weeks and is also racing better than she has all year. Sandwiched in between these two are Wayne Dewdney, Trevor Logan, Brandon Hannah, and Andy McCann. Hubbert won two heat races on August 30th and Logan won another. Lance Foster is over 300 points behind Hubbert in the overall standings, but is doing a great job of playing ‘the spoiler’, winning feature race ahead of Hubbert and Logan who finished second and third respectively. Only a handful of points separated Discount Late Model points leaders Larry Crowe and Amanda Connelly who sat first and second heading into the August 30th night of racing. To make up for a postponed race the week before, the Late Models ran a 60 lap feature which ended in one of the most spectacular duals in recent memory. During the final ten laps, Crowe and Connelly exchanged the lead what seemed like a dozen times before Roseneath native Crowe found himself flying through the finish line for the checkered flag just ahead of Connelly! Randy Bull continued his push down the stretch finishing third. As a result of the finish on August 30th, Crowe leads the points standings with 976 points with Connelly right behind him with 969 points and Bull surging on the leaders with 922 points in third spot! In the OSCAAR division, it was the #88 of TJ Woolsey who started the feature in the pole position. For the majority of the race, Woolsey held the lead, even pulling far ahead from the rest of the pack at times. Near the end of the 50 lap races however, he had some company as Jeff Hanley caught up to him which lead to an interesting and exciting finish. In the end, it was Woolsey who held the lead for his second career OSCAAR win. Hanley finished second while Shawn Chenoweth rounded out the top three. In 2007, Chenoweth finished 6th in the overall points standings for OSCAAR and 3rd in Rookie points. The OSCAAR Super Late Models return to Peterborough Speedway for the Autumn Colours Classic in October, but the Peterborough Hyundai Mini Stocks, For Funs, Legends, and Discount Car Rental Late Models all have a few weeks of Saturday night racing left at Peterborough Speedway to jockey for position on the points standings which seem to get closer every week!
