Concrete and Steel
Another wild night of stock car racing took place on Saturday night as the mechanized warriors took to the fast 1/3-mile track in Canada. I’m sure allot of people would think a small paved track wouldn’t offer much excitement because of the short distance around but it’s actually the opposite. Drivers have very few chances to get around the car leading so when they get the chance it’s foot to the floor and try to save it before the corner. Ultimately as we’ve seen several times this year one small calculation can put an end to the night. Saturday was no difference. Tim Burke in the #99 car was hooked up great and was the class of the field pulling away easily in the early part of the late model feature. Then during a restart for a spin Dwayne Fulford was able to get to Burkes inside and coming off turn 4 the cars got together a couple of times and then at the end of the front stretch at full speed Burkes car got turned into the concrete wall and exploded in a huge wreck, which also collected Nick Oram who was just back from getting his car repaired. Fortunately nobody was seriously hurt, but it might be a while before we see these great competitors back. In the other features it was Terry Hubbert taking top spot in the 4 fun class, Bruce Grimes in the Legends and Brian Woodland in the Hurricane midgets. The fans were also treated to a fan appreciation night and barrel races to make for a full evening of fun. If your looking for a night of pure entertainment why not grab the kids and venture up to Peterborough Speedway, always a good times and a true experience.
