2nd ROUND OF GRASS DRAGS

The third installment of the Gateway Grass Drags and Radar Runs will kickstart this Sunday, November 11th at Peterborough Speedway. The BRP Factory trailer will be on site with ballots to fill out for a draw to win a brand new ATV! The action gets under way at 11:00am with registration starting at 10:00am. The first part of the day is spent running speed trials where drivers set and break their own speed records. Following that, the official speed competition begins where each driver will have one shot to burn down the 400 foot grass track at full throttle, hoping to be fastest in their class! The day finishes with head-to-head drag races where often all four lanes are racing hard for pride and bragging rights against other drivers!
The second Gateway event was held on October 14 when over 30 sleds, bikes, and ATVs flooded to Peterborough Speedway to compete for points and prestige! For the snowmobiles, it was Chris Darwen who stole the show for the 500cc and Under Class, clocking a solid 41mph. The win gave Darwen the overall lead in his class after two weekend of competition, with a combined 8 points, 3 more than second place Ryan Taylor. For the 500-599cc Class, Mark Vanderploeg beat second place finisher Ryan Tripp by an impressive 9mph, as Vanderploeg clocked in at 58mph, and Tripp only 49mph. The win put Vanderloeg in a tie with Sasa Zoric atop the points standings in their class with 5 points apiece, while Tripp is tied for second with 4 total points.
In the 600-699cc Class, Jim Graham continued his dominance with a remarkable speed of 69mph – good enough for top spot and five points! Graham finished on top in the first week of the Gateway Time Speed Competition as well, giving him a total of 10 points and a sound lead over Dean Drimmie who sits second with 5 points after obtaining only a single point October 14th with a speed of 64 mph.
The next class is the 700-799cc Class which had a great turnout October 14th. Jerry Roberts took the win with a speed of 73mph, good enough for 5 points and a tie for second in the overall points standings. Roberts, along with Bradley Bisson and Angelo Bortoluzi sit in second and will be looking to chase down Jeff McKinnon on November 11th as McKinnon has a 3 point lead over the rest of the pack!
The 800cc and Over Class will have a thrilling day on November 11th as four racers sit within 2 points of the overall lead! Aaron Hisey is atop the pack, hanging onto a 1 point cushion and being followed closely by Robert Short and Steve Goebel. Goebel finished first in his class on October 14th with a speed of 77mph! Todd McCroy is only two points back of Hisey after finishing second in the last race, clocking 75mph!
There are also two ‘modified’ divisions in the Gateway Grass Drags and Radar Runs Series: a 600-799cc Open/Modified Class and 800 & Over Open/Modified Class. Liam Hiland continued his dominance in the 600-799cc Class with an incredible speed of 75mph, earning him 5 points for a total of 10 in the points standings! Steve Corbett finished second on October 14th, checking in with the radar gun at 71mph. In the 800cc & Over Division, Scott Connors clocked an unbelievable 84mph which sprung him up to sole possession of second place in the overall points standings with 5, only four points behind leader Mark McLean. Look for those two to battle hard on November 11th!
For the ATVs, there are two classes: 500cc and Under, as well as 501cc and Over. Ryan Rusaw blew the pack away in his 2005 Honda 450 with a speed of 59mph, while Kyle Ferguson and Brian O’Dette, both with Yamaha 350’s, tied for second with a speed of 53mph. In the 501cc and Over class, Kyle Simmons won narrowly with a speed of 55mph, followed by Jack McFadden’s 54mph and Jeff VanSchyndel’s 53mph.
