A NIGHT FULL OF ACTION

Racing excitement kicked into full gear at Peterborough Speedway on Saturday, August 11th. The For Funs, Peterborough Hyundai Mini Stocks, Legends, and Late Models entertained fans from the first green flag at 7:00pm until the final checkered at 10:30pm. The Peterborough Speedway Kids Club was also pumped up with Kids Rides in both Mini Stock and For Fun cars at intermission!
In the For Fun division, Donna Anderson kicked off the night with a convincing win in the first heat, while Wyatt Harvey took the checkered flag in the second heat. The For Fun feature was a crowd pleaser, as the #15 of Bernie Vanderzwet made a great pass around turn 4 of the last lap to steal the checkered flag from Terry Hubbard, who finished second, with Anderson rounding out the top three. Ayrran Hart is back in the picture as well in his new car #56 after wrecking his old one almost two months ago. Hart is still perfecting his new car, but he and his pit crew said they were excited about it and that it is running at optimal performance!
The Peterborough Hyundai Min Stocks also put on quite the show on Saturday, as nearly 20 cars showed up for an awesome night of racing. The four heats brought four different winners, including Brandon Gregory, points leader Robert Kerr, Andrew Swindells, and Riley Ekins. The feature was a great show and an awesome battle for second as nobody was able to catch Swindells in his #4 car. Swindells picked a great night to steal the show, as it was his sponsor night and all the folks from Bailey’s Bay Resort enjoyed the photo shoot at the end of the feature!
The Legends provided fans with the most spectacular crash of the season at Peterborough Speedway. On lap 4 of the feature, the white and blue #7 car of Matt Marshall bumped with another vehicle, sending Marshall spiraling out of control. He rolled on the track, up onto the grass, then into the air before launching into the fence in front of the bleachers in the pit area. His car was a total mess, but Marshall was able to get out under his own strength and was taken to hospital for precautionary measures. Peterborough Speedway staff and fans wish Matt the best of luck for a speedy recovery! As far as racing goes, Bruce Grimes, Adam Cuthbertson, and Andy Warbutton all won heats, along with Chris Maracle who won his first heat and was so excited that his spin-out almost leveled the Peterborough Speedway camera man! After the red flag in the feature for Marshall’s crash, the #88 of Bruce Grimes was in the lead and he didn’t look back. Grimes went on to take the checkered, and Cuthbertson and Warbutton finished second and third.
The late models also had four different winners in their four heat races. Jimmy Feeney, Larry Crowe Jr., Donny ‘The Hit Man’ Hart, and Dwayne Fulford all held the checkered flag during the heats; but it was Fulford who stole the show when it mattered most. The Late Model feature was also merely a battle for second place as Fulford had a quarter-lap lead before it was half over, and never looked back. Fulford took the win, and Craig Graham and Feeney finished second and third respectively.
We’re set to do it all again next weekend at Peterborough Speedway, with racing action starting at 7:00pm.
