An Enduring Night

Saturday night was a beautiful night, nice and warm and for a change there was no rain in sight. Our three primary classes were running it was also fan appreciation and we closed the night with a 100-lap Enduro Race.

The four-funs started the night off and by the time the feature came it was clear that it was going to be a night of domination for one of two drivers. Nick Lees and Lance Foster had each won both their qualifiers so it was leading up to a possible hatrick for one of the two. In the feature both were door to door in the opening laps and neither was going to let the other walk away without a fight. Lees had the advantage at first, but as the tires heated up a bit you could see he wasn’t sticking to the track as well in the middle of the turns. Foster took advantage of it and moved to the outside trying to make sure that he gave himself enough room incase Lees happened to slide up the track into him. Foster got by and after he was clear of Lees there was no looking back looking back.
The Peterborough Hyundai Mini Stock always put on an incredible show with multiple cars that can take the top spot, which makes for some competitive racing. With 4 different drivers winning each of the heat races the feature could go to anybody. The feature had its share of excitement with loose wheels and Justin Bierworth almost making a new lane in turn 3 and 4, when his car attempted to see how high it could climb the wall with out going over. With lots of three wide racing, on a basically two-lane track everybody wanted the top spot. In the end Mike Nelson over came the mechanical problems he’s been fighting with all year and was the dominant car taking the checkered.
The fast feature for the night is always the Late Models. Tonight was no different with 4 different winners in all four of the heat races it was anyone’s guess who would fight their way to the checkered flag in the feature. The #40 car of Charlie Gallant made it off the trailer but due to engine trouble never saw a green flag. Adrian foster piloting the X car got black flagged fairly early in the feature due to a fuel leak the team has been fighting for a while. Randy bull found his preferred lane and once he was in it there was nobody was able to get around. Randy Bull was the first one across the line on lap 25 giving him jphis first feature win of the year.
Enduro racing is always entertaining, and in the dark it adds a new element. For anybody in the stands who didn’t have a clue who was in the lead you weren’t alone. With 28 cars on this track running in two different classes you’d have to be a professional card counter to even be close. Fortunately the scorers at Peterborough Speedway have done this once or twice before and were able to know who won in the end. There was lots bumping and grinding but as the saying goes “rubbing’s racing” and “eight tires corner better than four” and that’s what the enduro is all about. In the top spot for the 8-cylinder division was Clayton Proerson, and Mike Sawyer took the 4\6-cylinder class. I have to mention that Peterborough Speedways own Dwight Lavoie came in second in his class and just so everybody knows all was fair, no he didn’t tech his own car . . . I heard it was one of the girls in the snack bar that did it, just kidding Dwight, good run pal.
