2008 Peterborough Speedway Awards Banquet
Saturday night the staff and racers from Peterborough Speedway got together at the Ranch Resort in Bethany to celebrate another great year at Peterborough. A large group of our regular series racers and their families along with many of the racers from the Legend series packed the large room with virtually no empty seats to be found. The trophy tables were packed with trophies and awards for all the classes and a good indication of what would be several hours to get through. The evening started with cocktails and chatter over the years events and was followed by probably he best meal I’ve ever had ever had at a banquet in 30 plus years of attending them. When track owner JP Josaisse to the podium assisted by his right hand man Dave Sikma we knew it was going to be a challenge to get through the numerous awards. JP managed to go through each class starting from 10th and moving forward adding a little commentary on each competitor and with most of the competitors being there still managed to had out over 40 awards in a decent amount of time. Congratulations to the winners in each and a special congrats to the top spot winners in each class. For the weekly series top spots went to Terry Hubbert in the 4 Fun class, Mike Wallace in the Mini Stocks, and Larry Crowe Jr in the Late Model Division. Joining the banquet this year were the competitors from the Ontario Legends who show up on a regular basis at Peterborough Speedway. Taking the mike was Paul Yarrow, who was more than gracious with his thanks for having the legend racers celebrate with the regulars from Peterborough. With a little help all the Legend trophies were handed out with Bruce Grimes taking the top spot for the 2008. Congratulations on a great season to all the Legend competitors. All in all the banquet went pretty well with everybody enjoying themselves. Winter is fast approaching but I’m sure there are a few that are already in the shop looking forward to the 2009 season. Everybody have a great and safe holiday season and we’ll be hoping to see you all back at Peterborough Speedway in 2009.
