APC Pro Late Models to Make Their First Peterborough Speedway Start this Weekend

IMG_2600Since the first green flag on the 23rd of May, the provincial motorsports community has been buzzing about the inaugural season for the APC Pro Late Model tour. Saturday, July 18th, fans at Canada’s Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval get to see what all the excitement is about when the series makes its Peterborough Speedway debut.

With car counts in the upper 20’s and lower 30’s at each event, just earning a ticket to the dance has become one of the biggest obstacles for drivers. Fans can expect some of the familiar names including hometown favourites and past Autumn Colours Classic champions Dan McHattie and Chris Mitchell in attendance. Dwayne Baker, Dale Shaw, Jesse Kennedy and Shawn Chenoweth have won the first 4 races on the tour. Track owner and promoter J.P. Josiasse says crowds will be excited to see some of the biggest short-track racing names in the province perform on the tight, tricky bullring on Mount Pleasant Road, west of the Liftlock City.

“It’ll be an exciting show,” said Josiasse. “I just might be tempted to dust-off my gear and get out there myself. Many of these drivers run here at Autumn Colours so they’re familiar with the track. Finding a set-up that’ll work for a 100 lap main event could be a challenge, but that will add to the entertainment factor of the show.”

In addition to the APC Pro Late Model tour stop – which also includes time trials – the Saturday, July 18th event at Peterborough Speedway will also include the Battlefield Equipment Rental 4Fun, Paul Davis Systems Thunder Car and OSCAAR Midget divisions, with kid’s bike races at intermission. Pit gates open at 2:00, with the spectator grandstands unlocked at 4:00 and racing getting underway at 6:00.

Looking ahead on the schedule, Country 105 presents the Mid-Summer Bash with Renegade Truck, Paul Davis Systems Thunder Car, Earl Ireland Auto Sales Late Model and Ontario Modifieds Racing Series action, with a 100 endurance event Saturday, July 25th. Saturday, August 1st is the Chase for the Colours Touring Division Pole Qualifier, with the OSCAAR Super Late Models, Modifieds and Midgets – along with the Battlefield Equipment Rental 4Fun and Mini Stock classes.
