A Recipe For The Best Family Fun

What happens when you take some of the best race car drivers and teams in Ontario from 4 different divisions, throw in a little fun with a 100 Lap Enduro Race, all on Canada’s Toughest 1/3rd mile oval?  It’s called a recipe for the best family fun you can find anywhere in Central Ontario.

The evening began with the Peterborough Hyundai Ministocks and one of the tightest battles between two rivals for the season championship with Alex Lees #07 leading by a single point ahead of #41 Tyler Junkin.  This battle continued thru the night with #41 Junkin taking the 1st heat. 2nd heat saw Brad Martin make his debut to Canada’s toughest 1/3rd mile oval. But the night belonged to the Cinderella Kid, although some of the ladies think he is more like prince charming…. #07 Alex Lees taking the feature win.

The Parry Springs Renegade trucks had our strongest field so far this year, with some very close competition.  Bill O’Harra wanted to repeat his success from last week, and started off the evening well with a heat win in the 1st heat.  Stephen “Daddy” Bierworth took the 2nd Heat victory, and Bill O’Harra picked up his 2nd Feature win in a row.

The Ontario Legends Series returns with a mixture of champions, veteran racers, and young rookies to Peterborough Speedway. One of  the home tracks for the series and the favourite track for 2 time Series Champion, and the Legend driver with more wins than any other Legend Series driver at Canada’s Toughest 1/3rd mile Oval; Adam Cuthbertson #79. He picked up a win in Heat #1, while Fred Jordon #70 grabbed the Checker in Heat #2. Heat #3 had the younger brother of  Adam Cuthbertson – Wes Cuthbertson #12 pick up a heat win, and Heat #4 went to the veteran racer with a history of wins at Peterborough Speedway with the #7 of Matt Haufe.  During the intermission it was a Legend “Dash for the Cup” – a 5 lap dash that included a long caution after only 1 lap after a wreck in turn 4, but it was the #14 of Duane Cinnamon to hoist the cup. The feature race was a battle  Matt Haufe #7 and the Cuthbertson brothers Wes (#12) and Adam (#79).  In the end Adam Cuthbertson proved why he has won more races at Peterborough Speedway than any other Legend Driver, along with 2 championships looking for his 3rd championship, as he picked up yet another victory.

The Vanguard Self Storage Late Models series is heating up with the series points lead of Brian Sudsbury #29 slowly dwindling as drivers like Kelly “The Crowd Pleaser” Balson #10 and #22 Todd Delisle picking up the pace on the track. Delisle grabbed the checkered flag in Heat 1 and Balson took Heat 2, but it was Todd Delisle #22 taking home the victory in the feature race.

The fun was not over until 28 Enduro cars took to the track for a no holds barred race with NO CAUTION FLAGS ALLOWED! What most people would refer to as either motor mayhem, or a Friday afternoon on the Don Valley Parkway.  Coming into tonight the series has been dominated by the Pederson family (#20 & #21) of Clayton and Charlie Pederson. But tonight saw a change in the dynamics of the series with #17 Dan Cooper in the 8 cylinder class battle from start to finish for the lead with the #23 Neil Hannah in the 4/6 cylinder class.  In the end both cars won their respective classes with #23 Hannah taking the overall win with some of the most impressive driving we have seen on Canada’s Toughest 1/3rd mile Oval.

Next week promises to be another stellar week as the fastest cars in short track racing hit the asphalt at Peterborough Speedway with a 50 lap feature race with OSCAAR Outlaw Super Late Models along with a full card of racing. We will see you there!!!
