grass dragsCanada’s Toughest 1/3rd mile oval became Canada’s fastest front lawn drag strip to cap off one of our best seasons full of speed excitement and drama that can only be Peterborough Speedway.  The Lucas Oil Snowmobile and ATV Grass Drags.  A full field of drivers filled “the field” with the sounds of speed and excitement with competitors of ALL ages.

With the ATV’s ripping up a few blades of grass, let’s start off with the Mini-ATV’s and the young Sydney Szabunio of Fenlon Falls posting up a speed of 43 Km/h, Matt Webb from Selwyn, and Doug Gordon of Lakefield tied up the 500+cc with a speed of 85 Km/h, and Ian Patterson of Bobcaygeon took the win for the 500cc and under class with 97 Km/h.

With the chill in the air, the hint of winter coming, only the fastest and craziest of the snow loving racers are so anxious to rip up the grass… Literally!  In the stock Snowmobile division, The 400cc and under had Kyle White of Apsley take a victory, and Greg Whatley of Peterborough grabbed the 500cc class with 84 Km/h.  700Cc Category was won with a speed of 114 Km/h by Joe McIlmoyle of Omemee.  Bill Arthur of Peterborough, posted a 118 Km/h to take the 800cc and over class.

Then the Open Modified Snowmobiles ripped up the yard with some impressive speeds with the 800cc and under sled of Chris Darwen of Apsley and a speed of 105 Km/h. Then the turbo 800cc+ of Ken Preston of Huntsville, ON posted the fastest speed of the day at 129 Km/h.

Special thanks to Lucas Oil for providing the prizes for the annual Grass Drags at Peterborough Speedway, and for all of our sponsors, racers, staff, and especially you the fans for making the season one of our best ever.  Next year will bring another season of the best short track racing you will find anywhere, and we look forward to the smell of race cars, the great track food, the action, the drama, and the excitement, of all that can be at Canada’s Toughest 1/3rd Mile Oval.
