Strong Run for Benedict at Peterborough Speedway’s Chase for the Colours Event
His 2013 campaign may not have started the way he had hoped, but Danny Benedict is turning things around in a hurry. The Orono, Ontario teenager wheeled his #54 Honda Accord to a solid finish in the Peterborough Hyundai Mini Stock portion of the Chase for the Colours pole qualifying event – Sunday, June 30th – at Peterborough Speedway.
Although he faded to 3rd at the checkers, Benedict started on the pole and battled hard with some tough competition, including eventual race winner Chris Mulders, another track regular and invader Doug Butler, who finished second. The field ran the first 22 circuits of the 30 lap ‘A’ main without a yellow flag and it wasn’t until working through slower traffic in the late stages of the race that Benedict would finally relinquish the top spot.
The next action for Benedict and his Mini Stock class rivals will be Saturday, July 6th when Canada’s Toughest 1/3rd Mile Oval shows its softer side with an Autism Awareness Night. Racing will also include the Battlefield Equipment Four Fun, Moi Parry Spring Service Renegade Truck, Vanguard Self Storage Late Model and Ontario Legend divisions. As always, pit gates will open at 3:00 with the spectator gates unlocked at 5:00 and racing at 6:00.
